MA work

MA work

I see my current work as a series of self-portraits, as a preposterous egocentric and heroic artist, flexing his/her muscles. Extending beyond earlier investigations of British lad culture and heteronormative masculinity, this series of paintings is absorbed in a self-conscious performance of machismo; simultaneously ridiculing and enjoying class, drag, masculinity, femininity, queer culture, sexual ego and heterosexist 'norms'. By accessing my own prejudices and vanities, an aggressive mockery of normative gender roles is facilitated.
