In my practice the landscape becomes a cinematic stage and strangers, the potential characters to inhabit them. Through one process, I explore my psychological reaction to unfamiliar territory. With memories created by cinema, literature and imagination, I explore and visualise the unknown alone. Experiencing fear and curiosity, I abstract the real into a photograph. Through a second process I invite strangers to inhabit the ‘stage’ via castings. The resulting images are collaborative: a cross between my expectations as ‘director’, the subject’s presentation and the landscape.
