Observatory
Imagine a world without manmade light. Skyscrapers and monuments fading into the darkness. Continuous landscapes of depth and stillness. People under this situation can suddenly notice how small they are within the infinite universe, and begin to rethink their position within the space.
The Observatory is an exploration of natural light through tangible structures, capturing and enhancing the beauty of nature and our interaction with it. It helps people to build a relationships between themselves and the natural environment. Based on an abandoned amusement park in Lancashire, visitors experience a series of spaces with names such as 'Sunshine Map', 'Eating in Darkness', 'Swimming in Rainbows', 'Fireplace', 'Sparkling Star', 'Under Water', 'Star Tray', 'Time Tunnel', 'Time Square', 'Sky Carousel' and 'Starry', which contain various functions and are located within the timed sequence of a 24-hour journey. These prototypes begin to unravel how natural light could be integrated into our daily lives, stepping into a world of light-less tranquility.
