Philosopher Slavoj Žižek (half joking at least) asks why we don’t keep the bathwater instead of the baby. There’s something interesting in the stuff of dirty water, this excess which gathers around things. I’m interested in the kind of excess generated by certain scientific endeavours, historical investigations, particular TV series and areas of my lived environment. I accumulate images and pieces of text where that economy just begins to show itself; in a figure of speech, an object, a sign, a double meaning, a detail out in the margins of an image.

The space of the studio or the exhibition is used to create places to put that gathered material – different registers to deposit thoughts. Shelves provide levels or floors, interiors and exteriors, between which material can travel. Through repetition [and omission], certain content, ideas, words and formal details circulate through the work.  The 'grubby marks' of this process of editing, distributing and attaching remain in the temporality of the methods of display. Throughout there is an attempt at trying to understand – or an interrogation of understanding – and an exploration of the currency and weight of words and images and the meanings that they might hold.
