uprooting><rerooting

The condition of being uprooted and seeking new soil in which to grow again is like the quest of the refugees.

Roots outside of the soil and arteries outside of the body – where are the similarities and where are the differences? They are both evidence of life aren't they? They are the substance that verifies human existence. Who pulls the arteries out and who offers the soil for them to grow in?

It is the body with its warmth, pulse, vibration that opens its pores and becomes the fresh soil for the arteries to seed deep inside and nourish them, so that the blood starts flowing again.

    MA Jewellery & Metal, 2016

  • The human body is a space. The human body takes up space. The human body is the separator of an inside and an outside space.

How do these spaces interact with each other? Are they interconnected or out of balance? How do human beings deal with the condition of being the intermediary?

Maybe there is no distinct answer but the exploration of these questions through the notion of materiality might be an answer in itself.

My intention as an artist is to use jewellery as a means to express my ideas in a wearable form, using the human condition and human nature as a point of reference.
