Colette’s study of sexual behaviour in her book The Pure of the Impure, has provided the inspiration behind my collection. Through various portraits she depicts an erotic world of cross-dressing fuelled by the power of desire, where female subjects would regularly dress in a masculine manner in order to pick up other women.
This contrast of masculine and feminine is very appealing and is summed up in a line by Grace Jones:
“Walking in the rain; feeling like a woman; looking like a man.”
