MA work

change

My final work is based on the concept of ‘In Between’, a state of uncertainty and tension. This state is expressed through the double-sided knitted rib structure, which shows a different colour gradation on each side. My main piece called 'change' is displayed as a free hanging installation with a spiral like shape to expose the different colours. By folding the fabric to either side the colours become visible and the shape unfolds. Constant change in colour and shape can happen by twisting.

In addition I have developed a series of smaller objects, which show different ways to use the knitting technique and how the material can be manipulated.

    knit

  • I have a strong interest in material and process, technique and colour. I am inspired by the technical possibilities of knitting in combination with the properties of exciting materials in a variety of yarns and materials. My work comprises a wide range of engagement with knitting from basic hand skills through to the exploration of digital, automated machinery. Through my work I communicate the fascinating possibilities of using knit in new and unexpected ways.

My work often investigates aspects of change and I try to translate these into knitted fabric.
