Organic Space that Body Creates
Min draws inspiration from Spanish Architecture, Gaudi's architectural philosophy of naturalism. Gaudi designed the door handles for Casa Mila, Barcelona, from the shape of each house owner holding hands.Â
The British artist, Rachael Whiteread, captures the space inside objects and buildings, turning this space into sculpture. Through her work, Whiteread emphasises the importance of space to exist. Gaudi and Whiteread support the idea of the study of negative space. When we consider the outer form of the body, the organic shape of negative space is made around the body. The other way is when the body goes inside the knitted fabric; the volume is made and the fabric will naturally create a shape around the body.Â
Min has expanded on the positive and negative space the body makes. She wants to incorporate these ideas into her knitted fabric for her final collection; creating fashion fabrics that eventually the body will weave through within the beautiful organic volume of the body.
