The Role of The Impersonator
Matt House’s work looks closely at how impersonation operates in a variety of forms within the social sphere.Â
Historically, impersonation has been used to evade rigid systems of control, subvert authority figures, in the realisation of a fantasy or the preservation of a cultural icon. The project examines impersonation as a subject in its own right, aiming to uncover the hidden potential and expand the use of the impersonator.Â
'The Other Matt' explores the process and implications of the author having his own very impersonator, from the initial hiring and training to the eventual insertion into various social settings. Throughout the film different formats have been used to initiate discussions around the nature of identity, the performance of self during interpersonal communication and the authenticity of reality.Â
