Untitled

As a second generation Irish-German American, and foreign student in London, I am interested in issues of post-colonialism and globalisation. I've chosen to focus on natural relics related to these subjects such as tropical foliage and invasive bugs, both residual of the collection of natural curiosities during the victorian era. With this insidious imagery as a foundation, I've played with ideas of decoration, and challenged the relevance of my material by making objects that are extremely vulnerable and functionless.

The items are all made by hand, using traditional ceramic and glass techniques such as wheel throwing, hand modeling, and pate de verre. Materials used are terra cotta, black stoneware, and glass

  • I use natural imagery to explore themes of post-colonialism, globalisation, superfluous decoration, and the relevance of a skill based, material specific practice.
