Public Harmonies – Reality Testing

The work I’m doing is strongly influenced by an interest that arises from non-understanding. It oscillates between phenomena, technologies, objects and systems. This non-understanding often leads to an obsessive journey of discovery, fed by a wide range of experiments from analog to digital, trying to create understanding through making and observation.

What is the relationship between people and music-making? How does it alter our perception? How can we express emotions with it? How does it create a communal bond?

In the process of understanding these complexities, I started to explore the idea of collaborative music- making and created objects (musical instruments) everyone could make music with.

Learning from these experiments, the final proposal is a collaborative public musical instrument, attempting to lower the intimidation of musical instruments, hence the barrier for non-musicians to engage with such objects, potentially connecting people in local areas. A focus spot in public space to gather around and create collaboratively.
