Designers are usually expected to be pragmatists, producing objects that are meant to be produced, sold and consumed. However, I feel that our lacking ability of imagining alternatives to what the world is now, is a result of a design that is limited by the notion of merely working and thinking in a 1:1 scale.
How can design go beyond just making things consumable and what is the language to communicate functions beyond the practical? Trained as an industrial designer, I see myself as a professional amateur, aiming for a design that avoids the limitations specialisation and standardisation – a design that is based on intelligence rather than rationality.
