'Unraveling'- Knitted StraitjacketsÂ
Knitting, most commonly viewed as a dowdy domestic hobby for women, and our "only real contribution to art“ according to Freud beliefs, triggered me to create a project where I could knit together the past with the future and it's views on womanhood.Â
Even though, women today have more opportunities than previous generations, we still live in "girl prison" of misogyny and the unreasonable demands made of women. We’re put in a straightjacket of these expectations and it’s time for us to try to break free.Â
Walk all over me'– Stiletto armour
This armour is my interpretations of "power dressing"; in this particular instance using the illusory power of the stiletto.
Few objects allude to the eroticism of the female more than the stiletto heel. It's very existence is counterintuitive, hindering the wearer and making them more vulnerable, yet it has become a sign of empowerment, and even used as weapon of femininity.
"Walk All Over Me" is an installation that actively questions the use of something vulnerable in creating something aggressive. I want to force the viewer to see what they think suppresses the wearer can instead be used to defend oneself.
