How it used to be

My project questions contemporary narratives of freedom and progress, in order to reframe the present through the lens of a peaceful, post-capitalist future.

Although we know more about the world than ever before, we are racing towards our own extinction without considering the choice of our future’s course as a species. Using film and installation work presented in form of a gallery from the future, my work aims to create the desire for a post-capitalist society, showing how fear, guilt and language lead us to blame ourselves as well as each other, rather than looking for truth.

The film is based on the island of Hormuz, to the south of Iran. The island is of geopolitical importance, and is a metaphor for the conjunction of war and fossil fuels in contrast to the beauty of nature.

  • In my practice I explore the intersection of politics, social life and technology through the means of interactive installations, photography and film making. In the past I have been looking at how we perceive reality, by analysing global power structures, and the impact of the different means in which society is controlled. More recently my research moved to dealing with the issue of war and to what degree art can have a social impact, questioning the narratives which shape the way we perceive society, ourselves and the world we live in.
