Expanding Woman
A research project and photoshoot about female physicality, explored through the themes of 'power posing' and assertive body language, the notion of women ‘taking up space’ which is usually reserved for men, and the interesting contradictions and prejudices of a female bodybuilder. Large scale work / 'expansive print' is used for emphasis on these subjects.

I’m a bicultural graphic designer & art director specialising in female representation with a keen interest in fashion photography and editorial. Drawing upon my own dualities of being Middle Eastern and Irish, I love working with contradictions: Fashion and feminism, the glossy and the political, the East and the West.
My projects are inspired by convention-defying women who overcome damaging, sexist stereotypes about girls that limit us in our day-to-day lives. Whether that’s photographing and showcasing the stories of a muslim, hijab-wearing kickboxer, an aerospace engineer and bodybuilder with augmented breasts, creating a typeface that illustrates a strong multifaceted woman, or creating a 'Bitchionary' of evolved female-centric slang. The spaces, voices and roles of women in society and the creative industry is ever-changing, but I would them to be bigger and louder. It's definitely an exciting time to be a female creative.
