Integraal: Overcoming Conformism with the Power of the Crowd
The objective is the sum of subjectivities.
Integraal is an offense prevention platform based on crowd intelligence overcoming the negative influence of conformism and bystander apathy in case of crisis events in public space.
The global cost of violence, excluding conflicts, amounts to 11% of global GDP each year. A number of these incidents can be averted if we work our way around bystander apathy. The amount of effort it takes to take an action (e.g. reporting to the police) results in the reluctance to help a person in need. Diffusion of responsibility through a group of witnesses to an event results in the absence of social intervention in violent crimes, which leads to escalation.
Integraal is a crowd responsibility system, which frees up empathy by taking away the burden of the entire responsibility from one individual in an emergency, and distributes it over the entire group witnessing the event. It equalizes the level of effort needed to report on the event with the level of responsibility attributed to an individual.
Integraal is a cell-phone-based anonymous platform that assembles subjective opinions from multiple users from the same geographical area within a given period to create an objective risk view of the situation. The threshold of signals needed to take a preventive action and alarm specific forces (e.g. police, ambulance) always fluctuates and is counted by an algorithm. Algorithm assigns the weight of each signal and is based on numerous factors such as the current crowd in the area, type of offence signalled and connections between individuals reporting.

Hi, I am Kasia.
My surname in Polish literally means "invented".
I am a thinker, creator, creative mind.
I am inspired by psychological aspects of human perception and behaviour. I believe that design can enhance the emotional values in interaction with the world around us. I believe that my role as a designer is to make this interaction more seamless with the invisible use of technology.
