The Body as Material

My work represents the 'body as material', illustrating the ownership of the body, and inviting the gaze to explore the beauty of curvy bodies. The work emphasises on rolls and bulges of fat as focus points of the garments. Through jersey, elastics, cotton, satin and brass body jewellery,

I design for women to feel comfortable in showing parts of their bodies that would traditionally be hidden or compressed under shapewear, celebrating the beauty of all bodies.

  • Karoline Vitto Gomes is a London based womenswear designer from Brazil, who explores the beauty of curvy bodies. Her influences are female artists who explore self-representation, such as Jenny Saville and Francesca Woodman, as well as the new feminist scene in Brazil. Through self-portraits and self-directed portraits, Karoline’s process involves sketching through experimentation on the body and photography.
