The Bread Companion // Collection of Industrial Fashion
The Bread Companion: In 1961, the Chorleywood Bread Process was invented, halving the production time of the everyday loaf. This gave rise to anaemic supermarket bread and destroyed the UK’s bread culture. The Bread Companion is a moving, micro bakery, travelling round high streets in an attempt to encourage people to bake, eat and appreciate good bread. Inspired by the community bread ovens of the past, the bakery uses a wood-fired oven to bake bread on the streets and also runs bread-making workshops to encourage home production.
Collection of Industrial Fashion (in collaboration with Dustin Jessen, Design Products): How can fashion objects be designed through the eyes of product designers to form a collection of industrially designed fashion? Working closely with some of the last remaining hat factories in the UK, this hat’s form is influenced by industrial hat making techniques instead of by trends. Â
