Making things hard for myself is all part of my process, if the characters on the stage — be it a paper stage or a stage on the screen — aren't in enough peril and facing enough obstacles or struggling enough you can be sure that the hand that drew them is. Â
The physical labour of drawing is a must to allow feeling to flow from brain down to hand onto paper through to your eyes in an attempt to effect your diaphragm. gasp. laugh. yawn
In my work I like to let the drawing talk. Let the characters communicate with their bodies as much as possible allowing their actions to speak rather than their mouths. Although I like to ramble and my fingers like to ramble too, I guess that I thought I'd save the audience a whole lot of earache, saving that for my friends and family or just people that happen to be in the vicinity. Sorry.
Now that I think about it, my characters really are better versions of me, saving their words, I could really learn a thing or two from them. I do talk a lot of nonsense.Â
