My background is in illustration, but when I make films I like to work with physical objects – making models and sets to shoot on. It forces me to solve problems in a very concrete way. I try to incorporate various tricks from theatre machinery, puppetry and pop-up books in my filmmaking, but then adapt them to the language of film.
