Sustainability is arguably a context that all automotive design is now inescapably produced within, and – given their influence – designers should be active in responding to this challenge. Exactly what these responses are could be manifest in many ways, but if sustainable vehicles are to become mainstream, the uniquely emotional characteristics of automotive design must be maintained, so what does sustainability look like?

My project proposes one possible aesthetic direction for an automotive future concerned with sustainability, seeking to communicate the technology, construction, material usage, manufacturing processes and recyclable potential of the vehicle using purely visual means, facilitating a more relevant and informed judgement about the sustainability of the vehicle.
