Focusing on the inherently political voice design has, João’s work explores contemporary crafts as an opposition to fast fashion and industrialized production. Through multiple crafts but mainly towards knitting, João defines his work as a studio- based practice that responds to different fields such as fashion, interiors, and fine arts. Finding creative solutions to problems such as waste management and over-consumption of goods, João is developing his practice mixing found materials with bespoke textiles. His work uses classic menswear influences such as Fair Isle patterns or traditional suiting and turns these references into genderless pieces through deconstruction.
