Crafting a Divide
Living in a divided nation my work aims to highlight a culture of confusion and separation which is accessorised by political propaganda. Focusing on the relationship between print and jewellery, badges become a loaded accessory portraying beliefs and ideals. I am interested in how the relationship between these two affects the construction of collective identity and feelings of individual belonging.
By choosing not to mass produce objects which normally would be I aim to recognise the importance of the overall message and their value as a political medium.

I am deeply interested in the role that craft has to play in how we live our lives. Through both academic and material research I aim to highlight areas of craft which may be less distinguishable within contemporary culture. Stemming from an upbringing in rural Scotland and considering myself a global citizen, I am particularly interested in the role of craft in developing our sense of self.
Primarily a maker, all parts of the process become integral to how a project develops, from material research to participation in critical discourse.
