Then Modern Fertility

The project consists of  folk-painting and objects that are taken from my fictional narrative. Where society has a completely open and public attitude towards usually expensive, and often risky, egg-freezing procedures.

As the interest in egg-freezing technology is getting higher, this surgery could become more popular in the near future. This project aims to openly discuss how these types of technologies are being considered in our lives. The egg-freezing process is promoted as a way for women to delay childbirth, so they can have the time to improve their career. Instead of finding a way for women who want to have children, to also have the same opportunities as men. I am imaging a future where it is common for people to use this technology without doubt or aversion.

The folk painting, which I chose as my medium, is traditionally used to explain phenomenon, and describe lifestyles and customs. My painting illustrates a folktale of my fiction that implies a changed culture and attitude towards egg-freezing technology.

The objects are taken from the painting and fictional narrative, and show the changes in behaviour in daily life, as well as women’s hopes. By producing them as real world objects, the audience can imagine how they might be used in daily life.
