The Emotional Revolution 4.0

There was a milestone match game between 'AlphaGo' and 'Lee Se-Dol', held in South Korea in March 2016. AlphaGo is an Artificial Intelligence created by Google DeepMind in London and Lee Se-Dol is a South Korean World 'Go' champion. They had a match game of the Chinese board game called Go – the game of such complexity and intuitions. This game mimics Chess, except the possibility of legal position of each piece is more complex than Chess and even greater number than the atoms in universe. The result was 4 to 1. This remarks the pivotal moment, considering that AlphaGo defeated the world's best living Go players by using the 'Reinforcement Learning System' that uses its own neural network to learn, teach and develop from its own mistakes and experiences.

While feeling the absence of human sentiments in the digital domain, I was deeply engrossed in the match between a human being and AI – the pinnacle of the digital age – in physical confinement.

We have entered a new chapter of human civilisation with AI. I wish to draw our attention to the lack of sentiments in AI, which could put us humans in the most vulnerable and helpless condition. Because we are all slowly embedded with the development of AI, everyone should be aware of it.

    MA Visual Communication, 2016

  • My work has been delving into the realm of a new understanding of representation and interaction in the context of our new relationship with digital technology. I would like to position myself as a designer who engages and speculates the further potential of digital consequence but keep seeking the value of emotion in this realm.
