I aim to reuse Clandon Park from a different perspective, rather than inserting a new space into the old building or fixing the lost part in the usual way. I am choosing to keep the old building in its current state of ruins, combining it with the surrounding landscape and designing them together as a whole. Currently, ninety percent of Clandon Park House lies in ruins due to the fire disaster of 2015 and only the facade remains intact. This shell-like exterior blurs the definition of Clandon Park House. It has the appearance of architecture without any function. For me, it is more like a giant sculpture that is a part of the landscape.

I selected some signature rooms from the mansion house and designed serial follies for these rooms according to the space scale and their original purpose. Then I placed them in the outdoor space corresponding to the level of the original room. Through a series of follies, an architectural language, the mansion was linked with the surrounding landscape as a whole to form a park for people to explore and discover. People can thus freely explore each folly to understand the original function and role of the corresponding room and then they can explore the mansion house itself to get a sense of the comparison between old and new.
