Research Project: Investigations of the Application of Acoustic Emission Technique to Limoges Enamels for Damage Assessment
I work with the Collections Conservation Team at English Heritage completing my studio placement. I have undertaken extensive travel to many of their properties, being involved in the full range of preventive conservation. This includes monitoring and controlling relative humidity, temperature, light, pests, vibration and pollutants. I have participated in several major projects, in one of which I devised a new picture hang for vulnerable works of art on paper at Down House, the former home of Charles Darwin. I was able to go to several conferences, one held in Vienna, and was able to participate in courses such as a Conservation Housekeeping course and a Disaster course offered over three days by English Heritage. I also organised a small research project which I conducted together with Heritage Malta.
My research project has been based on monitoring Limoges enamels from the 15th and 16th centuries on exhibition at Rangers House, Greenwich, through the acoustic emission technique for assessing damage.
