Fortunecookieland
My collection is inspired by asian stereotypes and assumptions towards east asian cultures. While growing up in Germany, I realised that there are people who believe that there's an over all asian culture, or that China, Korea and Japan are the same.
 I call that fantasy Fortuncookieland.
Â
I started to collect items and clothes that look asian but have no foundation in any asian culture, for example Fortunecookies, 'chinese' Takeaway boxes and 'asian' (Halloween) costumes.Â
I see them as symbols for stereotypes and ignorant assuptions.
By mixing these items in collages and by styling them on a body, I am making them my canvas and my tool to create and illustrate my own identity.
Â
Using humor and my collection I want to tell the ignorant off and at the same time making a shell and a home for people who have similar negative experience.
