Material Gestures
A series of sculptural textile pieces that sit on minimal garment bases, that dictate, manipulate and challenge the silhouette of the body. Pieces are interchangeable, layered with the base garments, allowing the wearer freedom to experiment with focus around the instinctive nature of tying and wrapping.
The focus of my work revolves around the idea of what we consider ‘a wearable’, questioning the boundaries between garment, accessory and sculpture pieces. One question, when does an object become wearable?
My fascination of the abstract image is important within my process, continuously working from 3D to 2D, and back, creating illusions of wearability.

With a focus on machine embroidery and printed textiles, my practice explores the alternative possibilities of silhouette, using the body as a space for the curation of hand laboured textile pieces. My aim is in celebrating the importance of the textile designer within a fashion context.Â
The juxtaposition of fragility and structure are important both in aesthetic and in concept. Applying textile techniques not only as a decorative but as a structural element, I examine the tensions and characteristics of materials through stitch and print, exploring these processes in the broadest sense.Â
Hands-on and intuitive experimentation often forms the foundation of my practice, allowing for new and unexpected conclusions.
