Over the last 50 years, society has changed how people get support in their lives. A higher percentage of people live far from relatives, and fewer people are involved with religious communities or social organisations, the traditional sources for support. This erosion of support, as well as other causes, has led to an increase in the rate of depression. The World Health Organisation believes depression will be the second leading cause of death worldwide by 2020.

The social internet has given rise to the virtual- self. I am looking at products that bridge the physical-virtual divide.
