No Big e / Join me for late lunch across the road

I have worked with two local breakfast cafés close to the Royal College of Art in Battersea and Kensington to produce a sculpture made of soap from their left-over chip fat. The process of making the sculpture talks to the labour inherent in notions of ephemera. This process is elaborated in an off-site performance at one of the local breakfast cafés across the road from the gallery space, The Battersea Grill. Gallery goers are invited to join me in conversation over lunch for a collective weaving of narratives; considering the eases and the efforts in different forms of exchange.

  • My work with video, installation and performance is informed by the unwritten rules, codes and scripts (i.e. dumb things) embedded in social practices and technology. I look for occasions of these that have a strong relation to particular places and respond with gestures that embrace literalness, gut feeling and exaggeration in attempts at foregrounding configurations that assume an ephemeral attitude. I consider the process a means to an end that perpetuates beginnings in an ongoing negotiation between my work and the circumstances under which it is encountered.
