James Russell Owen

MA work

After Autonomy

After Autonomy synchronises man and machine through world perception technology and electrical muscle stimulation, welcoming the user back to the driving seat, in a post-autonomous era.

Inspired by the increasing likelihood of a transhuman future, I explore how this could reflect on our vehicles. Experimenting with how these technologies and products can influence the design of the ‘car’. The end goal is to create a vehicle that possesses traits parallel with the transhuman philosophy, and expresses those traits through its function and aesthetic.

  • I believe that as vehicle designers we create more than just a product. We provide something that the end user builds a relationship with. The passion and dedication we invest in the creative process is what generates those intangible attributes of a vehicle. You can’t put your finger on it, but you love it and desire it.
