PhysicalReality
The German philosopher Ulrich Beck coined the term Risk Society:Â
"a society increasingly preoccupied with the future (and also with safety), which generates the notion of risk".Â
"Active risk-taking is a core element of a dynamic economy and an innovative society."Â
Have we become too risk-adverse? Are we designing our lives for longevity over richness? Are we losing our autonomy through fear?Â
PhysicalReality is a full-body experience that questions our response to risk through exposure to the emotional and sensorial stages of an extreme physical risk-taking experience:Â
a) AnticipationÂ
b) Point of no returnÂ
c) New and usual physical sensationÂ
d) Reflection

My design process consists of two strands which are woven together to generate the final output.
Part A: Thinking Through MakingÂ
My technique is to create a building block I can use to aid my process. My starting point is driven by the material I need to work with or the requirements of the final output (specification or aesthetics).Â
What this practically means is that I make a set - a jig, a rig or a set of components which then allows me creative freedom within the confines of the set.
Part B: Research And Critical Reflection
My aim with my work is to understand, consider and impact on behaviours and trends in society. This research and critical thinking continues throughout the project in order to continuously feed into the project direction and narrative.
When the two strands of my process intersect, an idea or an artefact is created and tested. The results of this test feedback into both parts of my process and my work continues.Â
