Urban Therapy

In the city most people depend on food being supplied from outside sources. As the distance between farm and table increases, not only does this increase it's carbon footprint , it eliminates a direct and nourishing connection with nature.

The project proposes that a self-sufficient wellness community is created on reappropriated closed petrol station sites in central London, where people are able to grow their own food and nourish themselves and their community. With changes in the oil industry and rising land prices, many petrol station sites lie dormant, awaiting  environmental remediation before redevelopment. This meanwhile use is activated by the installation of a kit of prefabricated components, which are recyclable and relocatable and reusable, to create a closed (but open ) loop food cycle from production to consumption and recycling of waste. This is an urban system which can be applied to any petrol station structure.

It will act as hub of local food production with growing beds, an open kitchen, a feast room and a market place, creating a place to work together and enjoy the process and the harvests.
