Rio de Janeiro's wealthy classes live by the beach, and the favelas ('shantytowns') climb up the mountains. Favelas enjoy incredible vistas; in any other city, such sites would be claimed for luxury residences. And that is what is happening since the government got rid of the drug lords in preparation for the imminent World Cup and Olympics.

Favelas became the cool spot for the young middle and rich class, who were never allowed to step in the so called 'dangerous zones', and for French and Chinese people seeking business.

The new economic, political and social scenario of Rio's poorest places became an inspiration for a collection which is all about French decadence, chinoiserie and 'carioca's approach to fashion. Inspired by the architecture of the 'barracos' (houses in the shantytown), I constructed my garments refusing to follow any traditional ways of tailoring. I find new ways of creating cloths just as the favela-dwellers found solutions when they did not have the right materials to build a house.
