Transparent Things

This series is about the glass object in an architectural setting – the play of light, the fall of shadows, the reflection on the surface, and the refraction of colour. These ephemeral, transitory properties stand in contrast to the permanence of the material itself. The situated environment becomes active, adding colour, movement and light to the material form, while the hardness of the glass dissolves into the objects and space that surround it.

I slice through glass blanks which I then cold-work and re-assemble to make layered structures, allowing for areas of transparency, translucency, and opacity. The structures are fused together in the kiln and then blown once more.
