This project is my attempt to 'look' at data visualisation as a reader without a background in programming. How could an ordinary reader understand this phenomenon, which seems to be filling our world and is at the same time filled with alien, technological terms?

This journal combines careful analysis of different kinds of visualisation and interviews with some of the key UK-based figures in this emergent field, including: Max Gadney, Christian Nold, Stephanie Posavec, Simon Rogers and Oliver G O'Brien. Two major discussed topics are: the relationship between 'data' and 'narrative' - especially in journalistic practices, the notion of 'data' itself perceived by artists and designers.

This project is also written in Chinese, aiming at introducing data visualisation as a design practice to readers in China.
