My practice is predominately one of drawing. It is the intuitive gesture and process of drawing which really engages me.
I am interested in the immediate translation of sensory experiences that arise when the hierarchy of knowledge is shifted, allowing other senses to rise in an otherwise visually dominant culture. I investigate the choreography of the body and its relationship to the process of making.
There is immediacy in the execution, forming a record of instinctive gestures, and a tension between a spontaneous act and that of the edit. The role of the edit and control is considered and challenged through elimination of different senses, such as sight and repetitive action. The process of drawing is rhythmic, intuitive and performative, informed by sensory experience or lack thereof. It is a practice about a state of becoming, a place of instability. It considers the acquisition and communication of knowledge in image-saturated culture.
