ExO

ExO is a speculative design project that presents the future of London where new criminal laws for ex-offenders are enacted. These laws are developed from existing legislation which makes ex-offenders identifiable and traceable in society. Under these new laws, open surveillance, public announcements and live information detail their identity and previous convictions by using existing and emerging technologies through various mediums. The laws  also restrict their movement and choices in society.

The project is exhibited as films which consist of documentary-style video and narrative films. These films depict what the society looks like and the everyday life of ex-offenders.

  • My work explores how everyday life in the future or alternative worlds is changed by existing, emerging and speculative technologies. I am especially interested in the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction in mundane, daily events. I use film as a medium and transform real footage into fictional reality scenes.
