People in the western world experience the safest environments that man has ever had in its evolution and history. And yet, in spite of all the safety, we seem compelled to worry, uneasily navigating through what social commentators call the ‘culture of fear’.

Through my design proposals I explore this disquiet ambience and how it substantially alters the ways in which we relate to one another, to our children and to ourselves. The Display of Affection, for instance, lets you virtually caress neighbours or strangers on the street from the safety of your home. Does our risk-averse behaviour, however, all too often lead only to more fear?
