My collection, Singing Silence is a quiet statement for the environmental changes in the northern Scandinavian winter due to the global warming. Singing Silence illustrates a metamorphosis, in which the usually snow covered, white frozen landscapes are melting and evaporating into something, that is beyond our capacity or will to understand. Using down and air as insulation, I explore the quantity of material required in garments suitable for the ‘new winter’. The design challenge was to create reproducible, functional, comfortable, dynamic, easily adjustable, lightweight and packable clothes – the whole collection can be packed into one 20kg rucksack – but still very feminine and glamorous winter garments. The wearer should experience herself as entire with the garment, as a bird is in unison with its wings.
