Escapism
My collection is based on my ink paintings inspired by artist Alberto Seveso's underwater ink photography. The fluidity, colour and texture of the photographs influenced me to recreate these elements in my own paintings, which I would then translate into my designs, and my knitwear collection.
As knitwear can appear very structured and regimented, I challenged myself to produce a collection of knitwear pieces that expressed movement through the blending of colours, using yarns that would enable me to achieve the dripping ink effect of my paintings within my collection.
Painters such as Rothko and Louise Bourgeois were integral to my research as the intensity of vivid colour within their paintings evoke emotion, leaving the viewer in complete absorption of their work.

The ethos of my design process stems from an interest in using challenging yarns. And the determination to persist in making it my own through considered textile techniques that are applied afterwards.Â
The majority of my work is inspired by my own ink paintings and drawings, which act as a guideline for colour, composition and texture.
It is important for me as a designer to have someone question the method behind what I have produced, as this displays a complexity of craftsmanship.
