Materialise
Materialise is a new bio composite from left over bio-mass in the extraction process of algae-based bio-fuels. At the moment this bio mass is valued at around $100–200 per Ton and mainly sold as animal feedstock or mariculture. This project uses this biomass and turns it into a valuable material with two other waste products from large industries. The material can be moulded, pressed or printed into any shape or size with great mechanical and chemical properties that allow it to compete with existing bio-based material for potentially a faction of the price. The composition of the material is an entirely new process that goes beyond the material itself. It is intended as the new approach to sustainability, by which a system’s by-products are fully exploited to achieve maximum value, efficiency and sustainability.Â
