As reactionaries to progress, symbols of unashamed opulence and self-expression, the Dandy strides the Hackney streets. These desires for bespoke tailoring, exquisite shoes and a fine piece of millinery have taken him to discover the values in the craftsman. Exploring the relevance of the craftsman in society against the backdrop of a gentleman’s club I investigate an intimate relationship between maker and user. Located in Hackney, an area which was once the workshop of the world, it unites its members, who are not of wealthy or aristocratic origins, but come together through their high regard for appearance and appreciation of the qualities only the craftsman can offer.
