MA work
History gives us a sense of belonging and placement, and offers — among other things — a platform from which to build. A process of layers built up over time, forming a palimpsest onto which current ideas are projected.

The geologist Charles Lyell conceptualised, ‘The key to the past is in the present.’ This maxim supports my thinking, that the relationship between the present and the past is key to our sense of reality. The landscape that I explore is a synthetic, fabricated one, yet within this synthesis exist real questions regarding our origins, our sense of placement and our identity.
