MA work

MA work

I am fascinated by the ways in which dreams and particularly nightmares intrude upon our waking world and linger there, unsettling a familiar connection with our surroundings. My recent lithographs and drawings explore those moments of heightened perception that can follow a vivid dream or nightmare. I try to capture the instant before the dream escapes into daylight. There is often a sense of disquiet, claustrophobia and an undercurrent of foreboding. It is never certain whether an event is about to take place or has already happened. This sort of ambiguity creates the peculiar tension in the works and reflects something of the complex nature of the dreams themselves.
