Ghost of a talk

This is the documentation of a performative talk taking place in the same space where it is displayed, a few days after it has been cleared out from students' work and partition walls.

I linger in the introduction of a talk, never beginning to deliver it, in front of an audience which is denied the content it expects and is made part of silence and stilness instead.

I welcome newcomers and offer them chairs, I try to keep in those who want to leave, I reply to enquires or heckling from the audience, I begin sentences and switch on equipment, but never get anywhere.

I make everyone very aware of the space and everything within it, including themselves.

It's all amusing, but never quite satisfying.

  • My practice is currently divided in two main streams of work.

In performative talks that I never begin to deliver, in silent interviews, in texts meant to be forever updated, and through preposterous street signs and embarrassing interactions with strangers, I establish connections based less on communication than on miscommunication, and use absurd humour, fractured language and context rather than content, to explore our way of interpreting reality.

At the same time, in collaborative projects, I try to renegotiate parameters that define artworks as single entities, such as authorship, dimensions, medium, duration and date of making; and investigate their potential to be instead ever-changing and fully interconnected with the context they’re produced and displayed in.
