The Channel

False horizons are assembled for the commuting urbanite who feels a compulsion to keep moving along subterranean city arteries. Concentric shapes bend perception to provide the effect of continuous travel.

The result of intense research and testing, The Channel is an interior musical instrument, encouraging a moment of pause and play. The piece makes use of touch, sound and vision to engage simultaneous sensory activity; encouraging a cognitive pause from overcrowded physical and digital networked pathways, enabling the audience to become the composer.

  • Emma’s work addresses contemporary material and spacial challenges, analysing the relationships between the human body and the spaces it inhabits. Her work involves a constant conversation between hand-making skills and digital craft, to create interventions for traditional textile thinking and mechanisms.

    Working at the intersection of often delineated disciplines, her work is rhythmic and repetitive – echoing the symphonies of everyday life. She makes use of scientific knowledge and technological innovation to form new perspectives and create artworks that skilfully manipulate input, processing and output, to create architectural outcomes.

    As an artist, she views her function as a translator; colour can be translated into code, pattern into numbers, and movement into sounds. Her goal is to use intelligent textiles to create mindful moments in an increasingly chaotic world.
