Emily Watts
MA work
MA work
The inspiration for my work has come from the island of Svalbard, an island in the wilderness of the Arctic. Bold geometrics and textured fabrics reflect the landscape that is both natural and industrial.
For my fabrics I have chosen to source 100 per cent British wool; I believe strongly in exploiting a local material and its attributes and supporting the yarn industry in this country.
My fabrics play on the traditional connotations of British wool and Menswear knits that are then combined with contrasting coatings and technological yarns. I enjoy the challenge of finding new design solutions for traditional concepts and materials, ensuring that they are kept current within design and are continued in the future.
