The Struggle
My current work is an exploration of the tension between control and chaos and the intense experience of this struggle.
The intention of the work is to explore the battle of these opposites. The resulting pieces seek release and freedom from the restricted, ordered, controlled and habitual, while retaining and revealing the tension of the struggle so as to remain closed, safe, methodical and measured. I have used knitting as the vehicle to explore this struggle and reveal a number of pieces that that wrap, entwine, engulf, tangle and cocoon the body in a struggle between the desire for freedom and the safety of imprisonment. The materials reveal the tension between the unplanned and random, the considered and restrained.
